Ongoing Rent Assistance

Public housing units and vouchers (commonly referred to as “Section 8” that includes Housing Choice, Mainstream Vouchers, HUD-VASH). 

There are always waiting lists and short application windows.

Emergency Assistance with Rent/Utilities  

Volusia County Community Services provides electric/fuel assistance when funds are available. Apply online or call 386-239-7757. For water bill assistance, please call to schedule an appointment.  

Catholic Charities of Central Florida provides utility assistance. 

Volusia Flagler County Coalition for the Homeless may have some funding for homeless prevention when a very low-income household is facing eviction.  Call 386-279-0029 or 386-236-9710 for assistance.   

Emergency Shelters  

Domestic Abuse Council Beacon Center provides emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Call 24-hour hotline: 386-255-2102.

Halifax Urban Ministries, Hope Place and Barracks of Hope Emergency Shelters. Call 386-252-9400 for Barracks of Hope and 386-317-5886 for Hope Place.

All transitional housing has its own eligibility criteria and application process and likely has waiting lists.
